Challenges
Safety After 2009 Stabbing
The biggest challenge the Coral Gables Senior High School faces is safety. In 2009 there was a student stabbed to death by another student on school grounds. Although this incident happened over 10 years ago it has stained the school’s reputation. The Miami New Times reporter said that the incident "spawned a lot of reactionary comments from Coral Gables High parents and former students, expressing shock that such a violent episode could take place at an otherwise well-behaved school in an affluent neighborhood," and that he had received two emails that said that Coral Gables High was in decline.
The school currently has capacity for 2924 students yet 3015 are enrolled. The more students enrolled the harder it is to protect them all especially when over-capacity. This shows me there is a huge issue with safety at CG SHS. More students then the school can fit causes a rise in violence, less super vision,
